Was wondering are these shade variants or does the orange ink oxidize on this stamp. On the cancelled stamp what does the 1198 stand for.



Also if anyone could post a pic of the colour shades that would be appreciated.

The colour shades on this stamp are almost as varied as those in the 3 cent Small Queen. Yes the ink does "oxidize" to the point that some stamps are a rich brown.
The "1198" is the registration number through which the post office tracked the letter.
