http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Register...AOSw7FRWa3GiThe stamps do not appear to be tied and the one of the lower right has one color cancel on the stamp and another on the cover? I contacted the seller and they replied promptly and professionally but believe that the stamps originate on the cover. Is this the right amount of usage for this registered cover? Don

In addition, the dates are different between the purple/black cancel (DEC 27) and the black cancel (MR 4).
I'm no expert; it looks completely bogus to me.

If nothing is properly tied it has to suspect in my opinion. The marking all look good and genuine for the cover. Possibly, stamps were lost or removed and then replaced with different stamps. |

Completely laughable. It should be franked with South Africa stamps, and it never went through the US, etc., etc. Any seller should know better. |

It was sent from Capetown, South Africa to Jerusalem. Why does it have U.S. stamps on it? |

rugface, as Crouse explained, likely a feeble attempt to replace lost stamps. None of the 3 stamps were even available in March 1908, wrong country, wrong routing. Just all wrong. |

What a silly way to create a fake! I am constantly amazed when I see a nice cover completely debased like this. The markings on this cover clearly trace its route through South African, British and Austrian mail services, even to someone like me who knows only a little about such things. I have a couple beautiful US Territorial cancels ruined by having faked fancy cancels and/or advertizing added at some point. Baffling. |

Don, I'm the one who posted this on StampSmarter. The stamps did not originate on that cover. |

I'm a little bit surprised and disappointed to see this seller offering this particular cover. |

Not to mention that two of the three stamps bear portions of machine cancels, but there are no other portions of the marking anywhere on the cover. Anybody who stands by that cover after looking at for a second has absolutely no idea what they're doing. |

The premise is so ridiculous that I am wracking my brain imagining a way in which the cover could be genuine. |

If you throw in the "Last Exit" sign, I can offer Nelson's Column in exchange. Lions will be extra. |

Probably found it in a purchased collection, saw the US stamps, saw the Caledon St C.T. CDS and assumed it was Connecticut instead of Cape Town. |

I love that the ink of the cancel on the lower right side changed from purple to black by the time it reached the cover. A true miracle! |
