I cannot find a simple answer except maybe here that defines 'coarse' or 'fine' print for Austria Newspaper stamps. Here are N5 I am somewhat struggling with. I can determine whether they are type i, ii, iii.

1 & 2 are on very thick paper.
#'s 2,3,4 seem to be a violet--altho my Wonder Color Gage shows violet much darker!; 1 & 5 a much lighter--gray lilac?.

One has a slightly thinner (1/2mm) Greek bottom row--maybe it's number 1--so frustrated right now.

Help with defining coarse/fine for N5 Newspaper. Or, if you see an image that is likely a P9a or P9Bc unused feel free to shout it out.

(Please do not mention "whiskers"! Been there, done those.)Searching on the internet for the last hour+ has been a waste of time! Should have come to my accomplished friends here first.

Thanks,
Bob+

Father, you're in exasperating territory. Don't let it get to you.

Here's one example of the difference between coarse and fine print: http://www.austrianphilately.com/np...es/f2s05.htm

I'll see if I can find something that shows more of the detail.

Just to show how loosey-goosey was the printing of these stamps:

Did you see this comparison? I think it shows the difference between coarse and fine rather well.

Thanks for the replies. I think what I see is that the "fine" printing has a little more clear/crisp look of detail. Man, when they say range in color...your collection wowed me. So much variation. So, I now know my 1880 P10 N6 that looks rather yellowish and faint greenish is probably a victim of the same color shade (Fade) spread instead of what Scott's calls a 1/2 kr blue green.

Thanks again. Tried to email you but do not seem to have enough posts to meet whatever criteria.

Fr. Bob+

I think jumping straight from lots of early German States/Germany to Austria just fried my receptors. I did find a fairly nice, lightly used with thins, Mecklenburg-Strelitz A1 #1 orange to send out for authentication--at least I hope it is slightly used as I am unfortunately in a position where reality dictates I must sell at auction a significant chunk of Early US and World stamps which breaks my heart.

Currently unemployed since February in Amarillo, TX and look for church employment. 59 is old in my Episcopal faith tradition--but, lots of wisdom and energy left. On the bright side, unemployed gives time to finally start going through stamps, but authetication is rapidly draining the well and I am being highly selective!
