Another question. Have this quite large block/partial sheet. What would be wise..offer it as it is, or rip it t bits and offer them solo? Seems to have some perforation flaw. But maybe common.

These can be valuable stamps as you may know. Don`t worry about the perfs as this is par for the course for most of the issues. The problem as I see it is that you`ll have to wait a good length of time to get the fair price. Or perhaps you`ll get lucky and someone will see the auction right away. I personally wouldn`t separate the stamps, but you`ll have to decide that for yourself. |

Thanks for your response. Indeed I saw that they offer them for some decent money, but do not know the recent value. Will take another picture of all that is left from the sheet that it was. But where to go? Most auctioneers wi#314;l not put up anything for sale unless it has some substancial value..

Made a picture of whats is here. 171 singles when torn to bits, but will keep them as they are now. Another picture of one with some daylight :). |

SG 2010 prices these as £31 for mint singles - probably around £3-4 on the street. Worth testing the water with a single? |

It`s a dilemma as to what is best. One could sell one or two of the stamps every month, perhaps, but that would take forever to finish. (I just don`t know what the demand is for Macau stamps.) The alternative would be to sell the lot to a dealer who would take over the sales, but I bet he would not offer a fair price. That is, a price you would be happy with. |

Now I am not in a rush. But some decent price would be nice indeed. Looked at some auctions the hour or so, and they seem to be selling.
Last time I offered some north korea'n sheets. Order of the national flag. Cat.at around us $6000,-. Genuine no reprint, 1 won olive green.
They indeed said that it was an genuine sheet, but they knew already that there was no market for them recently. Although they sold in the past. So its waiting forever or..like you say ;).
Thanks again and do not forget to read the korea'n cto topic.

This appears to be Scott RA8, which lists at $1.50 for mint in 2011, with a note about different perforations, which it does not value differently. Am I missing something when previous posters state that SG is £31? That is a huge difference. |

Never seen a Scott catalogue, so can't comment, but SG obviously puts a higher figure on it. Not unusual, of course. My 1960s European catalogue shows perf 11 1/2, litho in Hong Kong (1945) and perf 12, litho in Macao (1947). Higher than $1.50 even then. Anyone have a specialist Portuguese catalogue?

Thanks all for your reply's.
Now got some value's from the sg.
Perf. 12 £ 37,- Perf. 11 1/2 £ 49,-
Prices are for singles unused. These are still not the latest prices though.
These I think are the macau printing. As this is written on the bottom of the sheet on the right part not shown on the pictures.
But will check the perfs ofcourse.
Not bad at all it seems. |

KGB: "I just don't know what the demand is for Macau stamps......" Macau issues rose in price starting some 15 years ago after the return of the territory to China by Portugal in December, 1999; maybe even earlier corresponding with the increased interest in Peoples' Republic stamps. The general market for China, along with Macau & Hong Kong, has cooled some in the past few years. It's hard to say what the market for multiples of this stamp might be; as I know nothing about the stamp market in The Netherlands. Probably a stronger market in Portugal itself. Just visited the web site: http://filatelia.com.pt . Saw a 50 avo block of four from the same set for 1945-47; mint never hinged; no gum as issued; good condition; perf 11 (Hong Kong); for E60. In 2002, a single of the 50 avo was E24.94. So, there has been a substantial drop in price for the 50 avo value since 2002. GeoffHa: "Anyone have a specialist Portuguese catalog?" Yes. It's Afinsa; Selos Postais; Das Colonias Portuguesas. My edition is from 2002; which won't help much in pricing. In next few days, will be ordering a much newer edition from a Portuguese dealer. Afinsa lists two stamps at the 15 avo value: a local Macau printed version, perf 10 and 12; with value at E14.97 for both mint and used. I agree that the imprint on the poster's stamps shows that what he has is the Macau version. The Hong Kong printed version; with perfs 11 and 11 1/2; listed at E24.94 mint and E17.70 used. Again, all these prices are from 2002, well before the market cooled off. I probably won't have the new Afinsa colonial catalog until near the end of the month, to provide more current information. I would offer, however, that the Gibbons prices seem inflated. |

Noooo... :)
I would have prefferred that you told that they were rising still ;).
But the joking aside. Quite interesting to see what they will say in the catalogue now.
Btw, the going prices are all over the place. Some use the sg. and ask a certain percentage of that. Some use others etc etc. Saw some auction prices, and there it looked there is some premium on larger blocks. Now as you might understand I don't mind that at all.
But I will wait for your recent portugese based prices...unless someone makes me an nice offer ofcourse ;).
Thanks in advance!
