I have been out of the hobby for quite awhile. Trying to get acclimated to the current environment and looking for current Fleetwood FDC's but can find none for the last few years. I see they were sold to Mystic Stamp Company. Has Mystic discontinued production of FDC's?

Mystic still makes "Fleetwood" covers but (in my opinion) nowhere near the quality they once were. Here's a recent example:

Are they just making certain issues that they feel are going to be more popular, like Elvis? Fleetwood used to make FDC's for every US issue.

It seems "Fleetwood" makes a majority of covers for modern issues, whether for every single issue or not, I cannot say, as I do not actively collect them. But if you start at this link you can see a display of some of the Mystic products said to be "Fleetwood" cachets. Note that you often have to click to "see more" examples to find the first day cover offers. The interesting thing I find about the current Fleetwood offerings is that they do not indicate the cachetmaker name on the front of the cover:

Thanks for your reply and the time you took to post links. I did look at the Mystic Stamp Company site a few times but could not find easy access to buying Fleetwood covers or any covers for that matter. If they are trying to market and sell them, they are doing a poor job. As a potential buyer, the fact that I am resorting to this forum speaks volumes about their web design/marketing. You're right about the lack of a cachet name. I wonder if the terms of the sale prohibited that.

But what other asset, pray tell, would they have been buying, if not the name?

Cheers,

well, that's true...as soon as I wrote that, I realized it didn't make sense....but if they bought the name, why not use it on the cover? That doesn't make sense, either.

Fleetwood hasn't had their name on the front of the cover many years before Mystic bought them. I haven't looked through older covers to find out the exact time they switched but, older covers had the name on the front and nothing printed on the back. Later they printed information on the back and the block logo was printed on the front. More current covers have only information on the reverse.

I have attached an example of Fleetwood's first duck cover since that is the earliest that I have available that is scanned. There is no indication on the front the cover was created by Fleetwood.

I quickly searched for samples of each variety. I don't know that information placement is the same for covers with medals and other specialty type covers during the same time period.

Older cover with Fleetwood only on the front within the cachet:

Example of a cover with info on the back and the block logo within the cachet:

Modern example with information on the reverse, no name or logo on the front (other than cachet designer signature at times):

Maybe they decided that the brand name detracted from the artwork? Was declasse? Too "commercial"?
