I am going to create a bit of a custom album for a US classics collection (1847 to the 1930s) with SAFE blank pages rather than a pre-printed album. I am trying to figure out which of the stamp strip heights will accommodate most of the classic stamps for this period. Options include heights of 58 mm, 46mm, 45mm, and 37mm. Which of these would be recommended to accommodate the height of most of the stamps of such a collection? I am starting new and don't have a good sense this. Thanks in advance for any advice.
By "stamp strip heights" I presume you mean the height of plastic adhesive mounts sold in strip form, from Showgard, Prinz and others.
The heights you list are too large for that period, except possibly 37 mm, in which the Banknotes would fit, albeit with a large margin. 24 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 30 mm to 33 mm is more typical with the majority fitting 25 mm to 28 mm.
"Typical" US definitives (think Washington-Franklins) are ~25mm. Same for "typical" horizontal commemoratives. Vertical commemoratives are usually ~40mm. Some of the older definitives (banknote issues) are, I believe, 27 or 28mm, although someone more knowledgeable might want to confirm that.
Since the OP is talking about creating his own album, is he talking about the actual dimensions of the strips? For example, Showgard #28 strips are marked on package as 28.5mm but their actual physical height is about 33mm (if he is designing his own pages and is drawing blocks). I am unclear about which measurements he is referring to. Don
