These stamps look to me like they have different "OFFICIAL." overprints, which I'd describe as thick and thin respectively. But my Scott catalogue only mentions one type. Does anyone happen to know if there are any recognised overprint varieties for this stamp?

Thanks for looking!

Jimjam, I had a look in the SG catalogue and they don't mention anything about a different font on the 1926 Field Marshal issue (SG# O111), but there is a note relating to fonts in the 1913-1925 official overprints, reading as follows with a few comments from me: "The overprint on these last (i.e. SG # O82-O87), and on Nos O69 and O72a is from a new set of type, giving a rather sharper impression than Type O3 (that's the SG nomenclature for your overprint) but otherwise resembling it closely." What you have may very well be the same, although this variation is not noted by SG.

The two types of overprint are not separated by SG and I guess would be of the same financial value. It's interesting nonetheless, especially for a specialist, and I wonder how many others of the official overprints from 1907 to 1933 show these subtle variations?

Thanks for the information, Tim!

I'm not sure that this is a subtle variation, though. The letters are nearly twice as thick!
