Hello,
Is anyone aware of an online resource that covers German postal rates for covers and lettersheets during the early Posthorn period (1951-1955? Michel shows single frankings of the 70pfg, 80pfg, and 90pfg stamps are possible. But the rates table in their Briefe-Katalog are very fussy concerning overseas airmail by weight and/or location.
Thank you to all,
seafarer

Although not my collecting field I know that many countries had very complex airmail rate around this period. Canada for example did not have a single uniform airmail rate until 1971. That catalogue may be the best source you will find. Sorry I cannot help more.

Try finding a copy of "US International Postal Rates, 1872-1997" by Wawrukiewicz and Beecher (1996). On pages 260-315 there is a table showing Rates/Fees on incoming surface/airmail to United States, 1950-1971. The rates from both Germanys are on page 300.

A copy of that book will set you back $50 plus shipping from Leonard Hartman or you can get a photocopy or scan of the page(s) needed from the American Philatelic Society.
