Poll Question:
As I have posted to numerous threads, I have worked hard to develop a positive, collector-friendly relationship with my regular carriers and the staff at my hometown Post Office.

I received this in today's mail delivery. My main carrier knows that I collect colored cancels and that collectors hate magic marker obliteration. Quote... "I've noticed a lot of uncancelled stamps on your mail lately and since I can't bring a canceller with me, I picked up a couple stampers so you won't get pen or marker from me anymore."

So I am asking everyone here for opinions and comments.

Thank you all!

I will review this statement; At my post office they know I collect stamps , so if others employees form other places in the system have not put marks, post or whatever on the envelope, they just let it go.

Especially the carrier, are they Nazy, here they don't care at all if the Post Office clerk have not done their job and will not make mark or purchase rubber stamp at dollars store to do so.

Kurt, I think your carrier is extremely courteous! I do not really like the red cancel and the placement of the cancel, but at least you do not have the ugly marker "cancels" on your stamps!

You have a great carrier. He went out of his way to be nice! I would be afraid to mention it to his supervisor, he might get get told about it. I wish my carrier was a little nicer. I would call this an unofficial courtesy cancel.

Nice use of a couple of "older" stamps. But 51 cents? Doesn't look like enough.

I voted "other". At very best it one might argue it is a courtesy cancel, but when I think of courtesy cancels I think of a clerk at the post office using an official postmark cancel device and handing the letter back with it not having gone through the mail such as a first day cover or event cover. In this case this is just something a letter carrier bought for themselves at the local stationery store and used in the way they would use a pen or magic marker to deface the stamp to prevent it from being reused. It is in no way a post office cancel. I would see it as no different from a person who received a letter using their own personal receiving cancel which of course has nothing to do with the post office.

Well it's a step in the right direction, but why can't he carry a canceller.
Maybe you could ask the postmaster?
