I know the stamps may be fillers but could someone tell me if I'm on the right track?
Roll 1= J1 but are they pale brown or deep brown and I know they are not the S.P's.
Roll 2= J3 then J2 pale or deep brown and I know not the S.P's.
Roll 3=J15 pale or deep red brown
Roll 4= J16 pale or deep red brown.

I know it probably doesn't matter as the value for each stamp in each roll have the same monetary price as I'm just trying to figure out these colors. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Newby

my guesses: bottom 2 rows are claret, top middle stamp is re-brown, others are brown. [non-expert opinion]

Thanks chase even though "non expert opinion" I still value it as I do many others here on the forum.

The bottom two rows are certainly bright claret, but the brown and red browns are almost impossible to tell on a computer screen. They are tough enough at hand. The clarets will fluoresce bright yellow under UV, so they are always easy to tell. For the browns and red browns it is always best to have a large group, but even then it can be difficult to be sure since there are shade variations of both and they are now almost 140 years old.

Thanks for the reply revcollector. I agree that the colors are so hard to ditinquish one from another . I was going back to what chasa has said and I starting looking at each really closely I could notice just a hint of redness around the stamp in the first row middle. Looking at the rest of row one and row two(by the way can't believe I misspelled row with roll) I do not see the reddish color around those numbers. So,for now as I don't think I will send them in for review at this time and this are the only browns I have I will put them back in great grand dads book and call them brown and the one red brown with the remaining one bright claret.

Thanks again for both of y'alls opinions as I value both.
