I have a mini-collection of first issue margin imprint captures (12-13 items) and just got this one in the mail today. It's also got an oval Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railway cancel. I'm almost embarrassed by how happy receiving one darn stamp can make me.

rustyc....
this is actually not a "margin imprint capture".
This is a stamp w/selvedge attached with imprint.

A margin imprint capture is when the imprint is
within the stamp....thus the "capture" status.

Still nice....

Although this example has blind perfs, sometimes the outside margins did not get perforated. This can make judging the genuineness of some imperfs and part perfs very difficult.

Heh. I actually purchased this item and subsequently returned it to the seller. The online pictures made it look like a margin imprint capture, but as kevin504 notes it is not, due to the blind perfs.

I now understand the distinction between a margin imprint capture and simply a margin imprint single (much like a plate no. single for regular U.S. stamps, I guess). I don't know which is scarcer; in my own small collection of margin imprints, 11 out of 14 are captures. In any event, I'm happy with the stamp, blind perfs and all. It has a nice cancel, a margin imprint, and eye appeal for me. Here are my other non-capture imprints, which I also like:

If it had a plate number I probably would have kept it, same with a true imprint capture. In my opinion, the asking price for just a normal margin imprint single was a bit too hefty.

If you love it, that's all that matters!
