I don't believe you can change your name as ebay doesn't allow accounts to be transferred to another name. I know you just want to correct a typo, but on your own it's impossible. Your best bet might be to contact customer service and ask them to make the correction for you (you might have to email documentation, etc.).
It can be done. You go to "Account", then "personal information" (on the left-hand side), then click "edit" next to your user ID. It pops up a box where you can type in your desired username.
D'oh! Guess I should have read the OP a little closer. Don't know how to change the real name, but it's easy to change a default shipping address if that's a concern.
