The Harry Sutherland Philatelic Library In Toronto

Yesterday I spent some time at the Harry Sutherland Philatelic Library and
what a philatelic treasure we have here in Toronto.

The library contains over 11,000 items ,including books,
catalogues, periodicals,stamp magazines ,specialized handbooks etc etc.

The largest portion is of course British North American material
and it looks to me as if everything ever written about Canadian stamps is there.
I don't think there is anything matching this collection in
Canada.

But there is also tons of foreign stuff....US, UK, Commonwealth, Europe, Asia.

As far as catalogues are concerned, besides the Scott, Stanley Gibbons and Michel volumes,
you'll find Yvert et Tellier, the Belgian O.B.P. – C.O.B., Maury,
Australian Commonwealth Specialists Catalogue and many others.

The librarian Katherine Hartley was so helpful in locating
items I was interested in and it was a pleasure chatting
with her.

So if you live in the GTA and philatelic literature interests you
for fun or research, then there is no reason why you shouldn't
spend a few hours at the Harry Sutherland Philatelic Library.

It is just a block north of the Summerhill Subway Station.
