Scott catalogue shows only perforated stamps (#137-146) while Michel lists both types - perforated and imperforated.
My question: are those imperforated stamps simply a cut off corresponding sheets, or they printed separately?
Actually the same question could be asked about almost all DDR souvenir sheets, because Michel always lists sheets and matching stamps.
Thanks

It has always been my experience that if you go deeper into a country, that country's special catalog is more dependable! Just my two cents!

This isn't my area of expertise, but if I'm reading my Michel Katalog correctly, this is what's up with those issues.

The stamps were issued first in sheets of 50 (10x5 or 5x10 depending on whether the stamp orientation was horizontal or vertical). These were all perforated Comb 13.5:13 or 13:13.5, again depending on orientation.

These stamps are listed in Scott as Sc 137-146, and in Michel as MiNr 344-353. They were issues beginning on two dates, 14 March 1953 (MiNr 348, 349, 353) and 5 May 1953 (MiNr 344, 345, 346, 347, 350, 351, 352).

In late 1953, the DDR issued souvenir sheets containing these issues. These listings are a little complicated, so bear with me...

One was a sheet of 6 and one was a sheet of 4. Both were available perf (10 December 1953) and imperf (24 October 1953).

Scott lists the sheet of 6 as Sc 144a, and the sheet of 4 as Sc 146a. It does not list the imperf sheets.

Michel lists the sheet of 6 as MiNr Block 8 A (perf) and Block 8 B (imperf), and the sheet of 4 as Block 9 A (perf) and Block 9 B (imperf).

Scott does not have a separate listing for the stamps contained within the sheets, and lumps them in with Sc 137-146. Michel lists the stamps from the souvenir sheets separately as MiNr 386-391 (from Block 8) and MiNr 392-395 (from Block 9).

That was always my assumption, PostmasterGS. I've never seen imperforate full panes or imperforate non-setenant pairs. So I assumed the imperforate singles were cut from the imperforate S/S's. Personally, I prefer the imperforates as intact S/S's.

Thanks a lot! I got the same impression by "reading" Michel (struggling with every German word) - imperforated singles were never released as panes. So filling album designated spaces is the only reason to look for them.
Thanks again.
