Wasn't sure because the back has complete toning as well..Could that dark spot on the left have something to do with it??

Dark spot on the left is a stain. Toning is due to photon bombardment and is also known as a "window sill special". The un-eveness of the paper color definitely suggests toning or a changeling due to chemical alteration. Some early postal cards are known on dark buff which usually sells at a premium.
