Hello Malaya JOHOR collectors,

This stamp appears to be Johor SG4.Do you agree?
If you agree, is it a stamp for which I should pay for a certificate despite the foxing? From whom?
I would most grateful for help with this.

Michael, that's an adorable stamp, very nice centering for this issue.

I only have Scott specialized available, inadequate for proper reference for these variants. Guess it must be a variant of Sc #2 - but your specimen seems to have both "J" and "O" raised, which is not listed in Scott. Also the "R" and the "J" has slightly different font than shown in my cat, so I cannot really help you.

Just a thought: Your scan is not the best, but it seems like yours have parts of Johor postmark ("..HOR") ? The original str and settm. stamps were used in Johore. Could it be someone added a 'JOHORE' overprint on top of the postmark? With proper resolution I am sure some of the experts in this forum could help you to check for that. I am no capacity whatsoever in that kind of studies, just suggesting the possibility.

Thanks for posting classical empire stamps, they always make me cheer up. Hope your stamp turns out to be what you hope

Michael367,

I think you posted high res images there. Are you seeking additional input beyond sending it in for a cert?
Don
