I am new at selling on ebay and have listed a few items just to learn the ropes. I understand that insertion fee is free for a limited # of lots but I am being charged $1.00 for something. It appears in the fee breakdown. After insertion fee it says free but after the 3 day duration of the auction it says $1.00. Am I doing something wrong?

Did you add a subtitle or list in more than one category? Both cost extra.

Ronv, it may help if you give us a link to your listing? The listing number would be sufficient!

Special duration

Use of 1- or 3-day listing durations.

$1

I believe that one or three day listings are not particularly effective in the Stamps category unless the stamp has problems that won't pass scrutiny if left up too long. However, since ebay doesn't offer other more useful durations, three day listings may work for sellers with lots of auctions. Because fewer collectors check auctions regularly, it may be that "last minute" browsers are the most likely source of bids, making duration irrelevant.

The bottom line is what ebay wants. They believe that sellers will pay extra for one or three day duration as undesirable as they are from ebay's perspective. The alternative for ebay was to make the minimum five days. The desire for more revenue won out. Five and seven day auction work just fine. However, be aware that all ending day of the week and ending time combinations are not created equal.

Amen on the ending times. I try to keep in mind the time difference between the US and Eastern Europe and also Australia.

So they charge extra for a 3-day duration? That answers my question. If I do a 5 or 7 day it will be free. Right? Thanks for that.

rony-

Of course, nothing on ebay is straight forward and simple, even if it is, they don't describe that way. Here is the link to ebay fees. From here on out you are on your own:

For other hazards to avoid when selling stamps and to find out if you are part of the problem or part of the solution:
