Can anyone confirm if this is a Australia Scott #8a type III?

I don't think anyone could advise from this scan. The important area for a Die III is the frame opposite the Kangaroo's nose. There should be a small (or big) break there. Plus, you have to have the correct watermark, which is sometimes difficult to differentiate between the Wide A and Narrow A varieties.

Lastly, it looks like a 9p value to me. (Not a 6p which is the Scott 8 version.)

A 9p in blue now that would be special .

Yes, you are absolutely correct that it is a 6p. Sorry for my earlier mistake. However, I would still need to see a big scan of the area opposite the nose. Thanks for bringing this one back.

Without seeing a larger image I can state without any doubt that your 6d is a Die2B - which I think is a Scott Die111. Top right rounded corner with extensive shading break over value tab are a sure sign.
