I have some stamps that are pretty much removed from the envelope but still some of the envelope remains and peeks around one edge. If I soak these what is the best way to remove the remnants of envelope? Thanks, Jim

Can you tell us - from the year of issue of the stamps and/or from the shape of the separations (perforation or rouletting) and/or from a list - if these are PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) or WAG (Water Activated Gum)? |

If they are older stamps they may be printed with water fugitive ink. Please let us know what the stamps are that you want to clean, catalog numbers preferably.

These are all older WAG ww stamps. I have some that are just still on the paper, some that the paper is all but gone with a remnant left, and some that are very stuck to each other (no paper involved) in bunches of 3-8 stamps. Can all these be handled with the normal soaking method? Jim |

Be careful if the envelope paper is red or green, or blue, I can damage the stamp when soaking. |

Is there anything that can be done to prevent the damage from red, green, or blue paper? Jim |

The ink that colours the envelope use to colour as well the stamp. I use to put apart those stamps in the kilowares. I dont know how to prevent it, keep the stamp in the paper. |

soak the ones with colored envelope remnants one at a time because the ink from one can turn the water that color and stain the rest.
I always found it best to use cold water for those and to not let them sit too long. Separate them from the paper as soon as they can be peeled away. |

The SCF would benefit from a "Lessons Learned" tab where gems could be accumulated... but would need a manager most likely to keep it simple and on topic.
Lessons Learned: 1. How to soak WAS 2. How to remove PSA 3. Best Tongs 4. Best magnifiers 5. Best album page creators
ETC. |
