I know this is a crudely altered RO73d to look like the rouletted RO74d but it is an ideal example to educate beginning collectors on rouletted Match Stamps. Firstly, all rouletted Match Stamps exist on watermarked paper, secondly they are rouletted 5 1/2. That means there are 5 1/2 cuts every 2 cm. The right side of this stamp has 6 roulette cuts in 2 cm, or 5 1/2 cuts only measure 18mm. This stamp also shows the unevenness of the roulette cuts on the bottom. Ironically, this fake was performed on the most commonly rouletted Match Stamp. This is the worst stamp faked in this manner I have seen. Most alterations of this type are done very well, so before you invest in these roulettes get a certificate.

Fortunately most fakes are not done all that well, although this one is awful. This is the most common of all the roulette's as well, most of the rest are much scarcer.
