I recently saw a lot of 1Cent Official specimen's on ebay and noticed what I thought was a small dotted "I" variety-I was successful in purchasing the lot. After examining the lot, the stamp was not on the ribbed paper of the second printing where all the small dotted "I"'s come from but it was on the soft porous paper. I pulled out my Combs U.S. Departmental Specimen Stamps stating "The small rare broken "I" variety from position #66. It is found on the 1Cent Navy and 1Cent Executive of the Third Printing. This variety should not be confused with the more common dotted "I" variety on ribbed paper of the Second Printing". Only 46 of these stamp varieties could have been printed. I guess it pays to surf ebay at times.

Interesting -- good eye! Did Combs assign a value to this variety? Seems like a stamp in need of certification! :-)

This variety is well known on some other officials, but is not listed on this one. However I am suspicious of the overprint, which seems to me to be uneven. I agree a cert would be a good idea.

Combs has no values listed for any of the special printings of the Officials. As I stated earlier, the only other stamp to have this variety is the one cent Executive.

I realize this is an older topic but this variety is mentioned in the Scott Specialized under the American Special printings
