I went searching on Amazon for Ronsonol and, while it's still available there, I found comments that the brand was being discontinued by the manufacturer. Is this old news? News that turned out to be untrue? Regardless, I bought two large bottles, just in case!

I haven't heard that, but in any case, naphtha (the main ingredient, historically) should continue to be available through other sources, such as perhaps a paint store, etc. I may buy an extra bottle or two just to have on hand just in case, but I'm not real concerned about petroleum-based watermark fluids still being available in the future. |

That's good to hear. I could have bought Zippo lighter fluid at the hardware store, but everyone here speaks so highly of Ronsonol. |

Well, here's the interesting thing. Zippo bought the Ronsonol brand several years ago. (Says so in fine print on the container now.)
There was some discussion on a stamp website (it may have been this one), and no one knew whether or not they kept the Ronsonol formula or just bottled Zippo in Ronsonol containers. (And I think questions to Zippo never received a reply.)
So perhaps Zippo is just owning up to the reality about the product. :-( |

A quick search for "naphtha" on ebay pulls up many options. You may need to buy a quart at a time (about $15 with shipping), which is more than the everyday needs of most collectors, but it's definitely available. Paint stores might be able to sell smaller quantities a little cheaper, perhaps. The same types of products are available on Amazon and, presumably, though other online retailers as well. |

I have never noticed any real difference between Ronsonol and Zippo in any case. |

Naptha can be found at both Lowes and Home Depot at a reasonable price, around $10, and a quart will last a long long time. I use it regularly since it prices out much cheaper than Ronsonal, if you can even find it anymore. |

Interesting, 66, though I thought this product was banned because of its impact on the atmosphere.
Sounds effective, though. From wikipedia: CFC-113 has such a low flammability and low toxicity that it was also used as a cleaner for delicate electrical equipment, fabrics, and even metals. It would not harm the product it was cleaning, ignite with a spark or react with other chemicals. |
