Recently I borrowed the
FACIT 2015 Special catalogue from the Harry Sutherland Library
at the VGG Philatelic Research Foundation in Toronto.
It's a superb catalogue written in Swedish
and English which makes it easy to use.
I really should get myself a recent edition.
Engravers and designers are still listed but no printers.
I was interested in seeing what
Facit had to say
about various stamps we had been discussing over the years.
As far as the European Nature Conservation Year stamp is concerned
here is snipped from the catalogue.
Facit states that 6 colours were used , print was by
Combination offset and steel engraving recess.Paper was
Ordinary with fluorescent overprint (Finnish)The Swedish Stamp Printing Works didn't have a press like that in 1970.
The Bank of Finland Security Printing House had installed a 6 colour STIF press in the early 1960's
which could handle that.
This French built printing press printed 3 colours
direct recess and 3 colours
indirect(offset)recess.See previous thread about STIF
https://goscf.com/t/37831I believe now that the stamps were printed in Finland.
One thing still puzzles me though.
G: Cz Slania was the engraver but what is meant by
line-etched photogravure (value numbers) ?
