I was cross checking my checklist with my Scott 2016 specialized and also with 1847usa web site and noticed that Scott shows 1030 as the wet printing and 1030a as the dry printing.

I checked several dealer price sheets (Craig Seelig) and they also show major number as dry printing. Given this is across the board in my 2016, there must have been a change.

Al

Hi Al,
(Saw your 'contact us' note.) If there are any corrections to be made to the 1847usa site, please let me know and I'll make the updates.
Thanks,
Don

Can anyone provide information regarding the method to differentiate the SC# 1049a Black and the 1049b Intense Black varieties? Is it the paper it is printed on? Is it a particular plate number? I received a plate block that has 26602, so I know it is a dry printing variety, but how do I confirm it is Intense Black vs Black?

Thanks in advance to anyone who provides information.

Al,

I have found that many dealers have not bothered to update their stock to reflect the new numbers. I guess they don't think it's worth the effect. Just adds to the confusion if people have trouble telling wet from dry printing.

Don,

In the Design of 1954 Issues - The Liberty Series on stampsmarter, 1036 and 1036c the Lincoln Issues need to be updated.

Hi 703bobw,

Best way I have found to tell the two colors apart is to have a known reference set of each color. Below is an example of the two colors side by side.

I did compare the 26602 block I had against both colors and it is the Intense Black color. I don't know if that means all 26602 blocks are the Intense Black version.

It makes sense for Scott to list the wet printings first before the dry printings since the wet printing of U.S. stamps occurred before the dry printing of U.S. stamps.

Thank you for the information. After careful examination of the one I received and the others I have, it was obvious that the purported 1049b was printed on the harder white paper which definitely makes it the intense black variety.
