Spent 2 hours last night trying to ID this (No Luck!)

I translated it and the overprint reads: 3. Stamp Dealer Fair Leipzig 4-7 March 1923

Leipzig (Saxony) has had an annual Spring Fair since 1168.

The stamp is authentic and the overprint matches the style of the period.

Custom Stamp Show Overprint???

Thanks!
Wayne

What are the perfs? Any chance the underlying stamp is Scott 161 (Watermark 126)?

Postage stamps were used in Germany during this period to advertise stamp events. Here's another example:

I took out the better perf gauge and the perfs are 14 x 14 with WMK 125.

Thanks for the link but it did not work.

The perforations are irrelevant. I fixed the link - I hope it works now.

The text reads "Stamp dealer's fair, March,4-7, 1923"

I think Jenny2U is spot on.

Too bad it isn't a 126. Still, an interesting piece.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

Looks like a privately done overprint.

"Marken überdruckt im privaten Vierzeiler in schwarz"

Thanks Jenny!! Mystery Solved!!

Link works now.
This one's used so I will have to wait until one comes up to get a value on it, plus it is from the Famous Leipzig Spring Fair Plus it's Phil related.

Thanks again everyone!
Looks like I found a great new spot to hang out!
I'll have to place a time limit on this site or my wife will kill me!

If it was from the Leipzig Spring Fair, it would probably say a more general "Leipziger Messe" or "Mustermesse" (That's the reason for the "MM" logo on later stamps) instead of a specific reference to a stamp dealer's fair. They could be different events.

Because stamps of all types were overprinted with advertising material (which is what Wayne was questioning ).
