Are these stamps considered Scotland, Great Britain, or are they the islands listed on the stamps? Thanks, Jim

Information about these Scottish Island 'locals' is sketchy at best but I would describe them as Semi-local and semi-bogus.
There was a kind of 'local' service on Davaar from 1960 until 1972 where the boatman would take letters for the visitors to the mainland for a fee. Stamps were produced.
Later issues are bogus as scrupulous dealers got on the bandwagon. I believe your 1976 issue is one of those.

Gairsay in the Orkneys has a similar story but here the owners of the Island produced the stamps and it is believed they did it partly for extra income !

The same story abounds about the Scottish Islands !

Yellow-Cad,

The Linns Stamp Identifier states that "Davaar" represents a Scotland Bogus issue and Gairsey is listed as a Scotland publicity label. I suspect others will add more details that may be specific to the stamps you have.

A quick google search and if you believe Wikepedia:
I did see a reference to local stamps for Davaar Island. As for Gairsey it states the following which I find at least interesting - "In recent years the island was owned by one family, named McGill, who purchased the island in 1968 and now farm it and who issue their own postage stamps. Gairsay is one of the few Scottish islands permitted to do this due to the lack of a Royal Mail service."
