I have a friend who stopped collecting (mostly because he had to spend too much time taking care of his wife) and he had zero interest in selling his collection - it was like a child to him (even though he does have a son that he is in regular contact with). Just can't bear to say goodbye to it.

I agree with Floor - most collections I see are not well organized.

Some of us are both collectors and accumulators. I like to think my main collections are well organized, to the best ability that is conferred by the Scott International Part I (different countries on the same pages, etc.).

But then there is all the accumulated collections and albums that I'm still going through. Got so much stuff; for me; that I've been under a self-imposed moratorium for the past 5 months for buying more collections. As in, stop it, you've got enough.

I agree too. Over the years I've purchased/inherited/been given collections that had also purchased other collections. All were pretty disorganized.

About seven years ago, it dawned on me that I, too, was just as disorganized as the collections I received. I decided to treat my collection as kiloware. I got new albums and now everything is going into an album or out for sale/donation. I'm surprised with what I have and don't have. It's fun! I still buy selectively but it is way down from what I used to do. Hopefully soon I'll get to my core collection. It will make me happy and be easier for its final disposition.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.
