This may not be the appropriate place for this post but I couldn't figure out where else to post this thank you note.
Thank you to all the members of this great community who are so willing to share their knowledge of and love for a hobby that is so misunderstood by so many others. I have come to this in my mid forties with a very small amount of past experience in stamp collecting. I mainly remember as a kid soaking stamps, peeling them and drying them on my grandmother's kitchen table while the adults talked in the other room about stuff I didn't really care about. I remember opening an old shortbread cookie tin that I kept all my stamps in and looking at them mesmerized by the colours, pictures and strange sounding far off places of the world.
I was away from it for a very long time and have recently returned, spending quality time with the collection I have
inherited, trying to figure out how to continue my grandfather's collection in a way that respects his work and his collection and makes it no longer his, but mine.
Reading many of the posts here and asking a couple of questions has started me off on what I hope will be a long and rewarding journey to find out more about stamps, history, design, collecting, my grandfather and, most importantly, myself.
Thank you all for your willingness to share your knowledge; your love of your hobby; your welcoming words; your patience; and your passion. This is a wonderful place. Rare on the Internet.
Sincerely,
Doug Slater
