Quote:
RMS Olympic was a transatlantic ocean liner, the lead ship of the White Star Line's trio of Olympic-class liners. Unlike her younger sister ships, Olympic enjoyed a long and illustrious career, spanning 24 years from 1911 to 1935. This included service as a troopship during the First World War, which gained her the nickname "Old Reliable".

Hi guys...I remember borrowing (haha)this post card from my printing class in high school...It had a cloth insert of the Olympic...This post card is neat, but not earth shattering..Must have been an English post card because on the back it says to place and "Island Postage of 1 and 1/2 P"

Looks like an American flag at the front mast though...?

Robert

hey, just found another post card of the same ship that brought Canadian soldiers home fro WW1.

The number 4 stack was a dummy, so the image on the first post card of it belching smoke is incorrect. It did serve a couple of other purposes, but did not convey boiler exhaust gases out of the ship.

The box with "inland postage 1˝d" is similar to the "Affix stamp here" instructions. In this case it would be the cost of a 1˝d stamp to post it anywhere in the UK. It would cost more to post anywhere else depending on destination. This postcard would probably attract a postage due cost as the silk picture insert would count as an enclosure and be charged at letter rate.

Even glitter on a postcard made it letter rate...that is why there is a 1˝d rate printed in the box on your postcard. That was the letter rate in 1919.
