I sent away for a favor cancel on a cover. I weighed the return mailpiece before I sent it and, as you can see, it clocked in at just over one ounce.

The postmaster not only cancelled the cover nicely for me, but actually purchased a $0.22 mailing label to pay for the additional ounce, so that it wouldn't arrive postage due! It was very kind and wonderful of the postmaster to extend this favor.

The only problem? The postmaster apparently missed that I had used a two-ounce stamp, not a one-ounce stamp. The return envelope already had sufficient postage, and the 22¢ he or she spent was entirely unnecessary.

Still a very thoughtful gesture that helped restore my opinion of the modern USPS.

The mark of a great cover is that it has an interesting story behind it.

Just had a dispute with my local postmaster over a three ounce forever stamp. After submitting a copy of the relevant Postal Bulletin, I won.

Our local post office has a history of misunderstand the concept of Forever stamps. Anecdotal evidence exists of the window clerks demanding additional postage because (according to them) Forever stamps are only worth what you paid for them. Right, so now that rates have dropped, what about that extra 2c I paid?
