Interesting combinations that come from booklet panes and a coil strip.

Your first block comes from a 50p booklet pane and dates from 1971- 1974 with the exact date depending on the paper and gum types.

The second combination of three stamps comes from a 1977 10p coil strip with the two ˝p stamp missing... normally 7,1,1,˝,˝

The third pair comes from a 1982 50p booklet. It is the only booklet pane that has a combination of 3p and ˝p se-tenant stamps. The ˝p stamp may have a right phosphor band that is short at the bottom.

The last pair of stamps comes from the "London 80" booklet issued in 1979. The complete pane of stamps had a label and another 1p stamp above the stamps you have. Both stamps should have a center phosphor band.

Can someone tell me if the missing perforations are common for these stamps or if the "show off" is somewhat misguided?

Peter

The "missing" perforations are a result of the way the stamp panes were guillotined and are normally called "trimmed perfs"... easily seen in the top example 1p stamps. This trimming would have a negative effect on the value of a pane of stamps.

P.S. The last pair of stamps...the 8p and 1p combination... could have come from a coil strip but, as they show definite trimmed perfs on the 8p value, I thought it is most likely they came from a booklet pane.

Just for clarity, there have been GB booklet panes issued without perforations. For instance...

These booklet stamps were issued with imperforate horizontal edges and do not have any additional value over a normally perforated stamp. Some other booklet panes were issued with imperforate vertical edges too. This particular 14p booklet pane has no value other than containing a perforation variety of the 14p stamp. As an entire pane it is worth very little as it shows trimmed perforations on the right side which is why it has been used for recent postage.
The stamps posted by BaeiouZ do not fall into the category of missing perforations or issued with imperforate horizontal (or vertical) edges.
