Hello, I recently found a stamp of Ceylon 1862 with a strange watermark. Instead of the star there is a number and a part of a number visible (a 2 and a ?) Somebody know more about such a thing?
Sometimes, stamps get printed over the paper manufacturer's watermark. In this case, it would be "T. H. SAUNDERS 1862". Your watermark shows the part of the "6" and the "2" from the year "1862".
khj, you`ve restored my confidence in the stamp. I worried that it wasn`t quite right. (I think one has to acknowledge that either the scan is poor or the printing is not as crisp as other examples found on the Internet.) Good for you, Kevin! The stamp might be worth 100 pounds or so! https://www.barnebys.co.uk/auctions...blue-smooth/
