I picked up these Guatemala fancy cancels at he stamp meeting tonight..there were one and a half million of the 5 centavo printed and 500,000 of the 10 center so I do not have them all yet

Thanks, we have this one guy that is always buying old collections..he sells the good stuff and then asks me..want any Guatemala ???

Swabbie its not easy to stay too close to him..he loves to brag how much he gets for selling a few stamps from a large collection..one of those guys...i am just a peon !!

Thanks Craig, on Guatemala mostly I look for the fancy cancels of which there are many and the interior airmail flight covers..flown within Guatemala..there are just too many airmail covers to foreign destinations.the states and Europe mainly...

Unfortunately, but for a few exceptions, many dealers and collectors consider Guatemala stamps as not worthy to collect. Sad, since Guatemala has produced and still produces some very beautiful stamps.

I sometimes have to wonder if the lack of respect for them might come from the 1970s and 80s when quality, topics and designs were often undesirable. If my guess is at least true in part, it may take years to overcome the negative attitude by many to Guatemalan stamps.
However, in all fairness, there may be a reason to low quality during this period; A major earthquake destroyed much of the country, especially the capitol where all stamps were and still are printed. High quality stamps were simply not a priority at the time.
