German Postcard Of 20-25 Lb. Paper

Here's an oddity I found in a $1 cover box. It is a postcard made of 20-25 lb. paper, with typeset printing, and mailed within W. Germany on May, 25, 1950 at the correct 10 pf. rate.

Credits show the designer's name and tell that the image is composed of the words of Goethe. Card was produced by Caritasverlag, a Catholic relief charity in Germany.

Amazingly, the card is still in good condition after going unprotected through the mailstream, and probably more than a few cover boxes.

I've had a few of these show-up in auction lots.

Like you, I'm a little amazed that they are always in pretty good shape.

Germans made good postcards. Looks like your postcard is missing something and I'm guessing it is missing the Blue Flea postal tax stamp.

Thanks Battlestamps; you are absolutely correct. I saw the area where part of the postmark was missing, but I didn't "put 2 + 2 together." There are no gum traces there. Uh...that's my excuse
