In the US "when pigs fly" is a flippant answer the equivalent of saying it will never happen. In Latvia prior to WW 2 apparently it's also the topic of New Years postcards. Pigs apparently being a symbol of good fortune and good luck. Here is a postcard that I just added to the collection along with 2 others along the same lines. And yes I have a weird sense of humor.

The postcard was sent from Riga to Strenci machine cancelled 31.12.36. Below is the full cancel.

This one was mailed from Valka thru Aumeisteri with a Valka 29.12.38 CDS. Unfortunately someone removed the stamp.

This one was mailed from Bauska thru Vecpiebalga with a Bauska 29.XII.40 CDS

Excellent cards! The first one is a real beauty with a great postmark. I notice that the pig and the wine are strapped in, but the lady is not. I guess she doesn't notice and doesn't care. I wonder what happened to the tail of that plane?

Nice, I noticed all three postcards have four leaf clovers, for good luck I presume.

Yes. Along with horseshoes and money bags. Though I don't know how lucky you would feel getting hit in the head by a falling horseshoe. The lady appears to be more intent on just partying I think. Notice though that the pig is actually a flying piggy bank.
