Don.

The APS response has no changed in 20 years on this topic. David L. Straight was a proponent but judging the results little happened.

I agree that by having an IT outsider they will not be forward thinker and the barely meets minimum web site proves this.

The only way to do this is to fund some endowment to cover this. I have no problem with the Match Factory but there has to be more than that for APS. There are lots of philatelic web sites not operated by some major investment in IT staff. You see this thinking when we had the discussion about a discussion forum and somehow APS could not do it because of money (cannot use volunteers, etc). APS, like many others, talk themselves out of doing things.

I would be happy to donate money for this cause but see no tangible commitment from APS.

I would like to add you will not see support for some philatelic writers and societies since they make revenue from printed materials and not likely to put some works online.

Al,
True enough, I am all for copyrighted materials staying that way. In those cases, you build an index of the content for search capabilities, post only a few pages (to demonstrate the scope and breadth of the work) that are free public viewing, and then offer real-time check out if the reader wants access to the full copy. You can also offer several methods, at differing prices, of accessibility to the work.
All printed publishers are having to make the same transition, we aren't breaking new ground here. More like we are trying to catch up.

This is closer to the facts but the "trying" is not enough to catch up.

Not that it might be of interest to many, but tehre was one site I visited this morning (http://www.cinderellas.info/) that hasn't been updated since 2010 or so and might be of interest to some.

I am not asking someone to back up the web site or try to track down someone for permission. Just saying - it looks like someone put some effort into it a while back.
