I tried to take pictures of some of my stamps with my mobile phone. The clarity was pretty poor (maybe because its a 5 mega pixel camera). How are photos taken by other people?

It is difficult to use a camera because reducing the image's angle is important; most folks use a scanner since this produces a 'flat' image.

The scanner has advantages. I use a camera for doing pics with UV and LW lighting. It also works better for larger subjects.

If you want to use a camera, you will need to use a copy stand and then add lights for more even illumination.

This is what they look like. You can get some for smart phones and ipads.

I use an old enlarger stand and a DSLR camera with a macro capable lens.
