Don't find this in Scott's or Stampworld. Not sure if it is an overprint or not. I assume it is Japan due to the sun or flower (not sure which it is) on most Japanese stamps. Also, what year is it issued? Thanks, Jim

Hi yellow_cad,

Yes, it's from Japan and the flower is a chrysanthemum.

This looks like SG 307 / Scott #250 issued in 1937.

There was a similar stamp, SG 238 / Scott #142, with a different watermark and darker colours issued in 1929.

Both stamps are pictured on http://stampworld.com , and I believe that the lighter color is the earlier one. But the main difference would be the watermark as nigelc pointed out.

Thanks. First, I did miss it in Scott's but in Stampworld I did a search for 30 Sen and it didn't come up there. I don't know why.

Scott (2015)

Printing ink shades will not help you identify which. Use paper type and watermarks.
