Not sure where the best location to post this question, so I'll start here. I'm trying to find information on the world's first Postal Stationary Envelope (i.e. embossed envelope). I've found info on the first postal card, but no luck yet on the envelope. Any help would be appreciated!

lukusw - you'll have better search results if you search the correct word. It's stationery.

It is odd that this topic came up because in my latest journal "Canadian Philatelist" of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) for this month has an article on that topic titled "The Evolution of Postal Stationery" by Frank Alusio (FRPSC)
The categories were under the following sub titles:

A - The Venetian "A - Q" Letter Sheets (1608 to 1797
B - The BilletsDe Port Paye (1653 to 1655)
C - The Cavallini (1818 to 1836)
D - The Mulready Stationery (MAY 6, 1840 to mid July 1840)
E - The First Postal Card (1869)
F - The First Canadian Postal Card (1871)

If you can get access to a copy of this journal, it might help you?

If you are talking about the first government issued embossed postal stationery envelope, the penny pink, issued by the UK is almost certainly the first of the type.

Although, preceded by the Mulready, the Mulready was not embossed nor was it an envelope. It was an engraved letter sheet. The penny pink was introduced in February 1841.

Please see the wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulready_stationery

Best,

-Larry

Hi Idhaber,

The Mulready postal stationery items issued in 1840 consisted of both envelopes and letter sheets.

Both of these postal stationery types were available in both 1d and 2d values.
