Hello,
So I have been trying to figure out what this stamp is:

Some things to note:
1) It says "Correos" in the upper right, indicating that it is a stamp.
2) It does not say "Espana" or "Republica Espanola" on it, which is the norm for Spain.
3) It clearly references Barcelona, which is in Spain.
4) On the back it has "Series 6 - LL" in light green and "261198" in blue. Old Spanish stamps have numbers printed on the back.

Scotts says that during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) cities in Spain issued charity semi-postal stamps. Is this one of those stamps? Or something else?

Thanks for any insights.

Ayuntamiento refers to a Town Hall or City Hall.

Good guess, John Paul, but it's a local tax stamp.

So is it a stamp or more of a cinderella? Are there collectors who are interested in these (and have a corresponding catalog)?

This one is a postage stamp, hence the word 'correos' and this stamp is during the Spanish Civil War issued in 1938. However, Barcelona had issued it's own stamps for postage since 1929 and until 1945, 71 different issues during that time. The stamp is listed in Edifil as #19 or #20. #19 has a control # on back of stamp, #20 does not. So based on what you stated its #19. The stamp is common, low value, but cool. Also 2 other locals from Spain are Valencia 1963-73 & Asturias & Leon 1936-37.

Thanks for the info, Mike!

Does Edifil put out a catalog in English? I was hesitant to buy one because I was told it was only in Spanish.

Also, to make sure I now understand correctly, you are saying it is a regular local postage stamp, and not a local postal tax stamp?

Edifil is only in Spanish as far as I'm aware. It still makes for a good guide it has items overlooked in Scott's. If you are heavy into Spain & Colony's it's a very good reference, even my 1975 copy is in color.
The civil war postal tax stamps are not listed in my copy. But I do believe that they have a catalog for those issues only.

Thanks, Mike!

You are right, even if it is in Spanish, it would still be a useful reference for the many stamps unlisted by Scott. I've discovered that to be true with my other foreign language catalogs.

I didn't realize it was in color. I will definitely pick one up next time I buy some outdated catalogs for reference!
