I purchased a HUGE untouched accumulation of envelopes to a major northeastern university's cashier's office from the 1970s and 1980s. Been having lots of fun cataloging postmarks. Here's an unusual machine cancel that was in the lot. I can't think of many other late 20th century machine cancels that are not in black.

It has a strong resemblance to the color of meter ink. Is it UV-active?

Of course there were quite a few cities using purple ink in their machines a decade later, and there is a Machine Cancel Society monograph on them.
