A decent #26 on cover. Nice Annapolis Md. 1860 cancel.
Best part is the contents. It's a letter from a Naval Academy student. It's written to his sister addressed to Nashville, Tennessee. It's four pages, I've scanned the first and fourth. The fourth page shows, what I think is, a chart of student rankings for different classes.

The writer A. D. Wharton becomes a Lt. in the Confederate Navy during the Civil War.

I love the peek into someone's life for a second, being able to touch a small piece of history.

I like this cover and letter. I often hear of people saying that the War Between the States was led on both sides by classmates from the Military Academy at West Point which of course was true for the Army, but this is a good example where it was also led by classmates from the Naval Academy at Annapolis. The Annapolis situation was even more fragile since it is in Maryland where part of the state sent men to the Union and part sent men to the Confederacy.
