Hi,

so I have this stamp in used condition. According to Michel catalogue this should be Mi #241 which is of very low value. But also in catalogue there is Mi# 241 Y, which is much more valuable (150 eur in used cond). On the back of the stamp there is signature and letter Y, I wonder if this indicates that it's #241 Y or just is a part of signature. So I need information about the meaning of this signature and also if this could be #241 Y stamp ?

Thanks in advance ;)

Hi digeriukas, and welcome to this forum, Very little people here use Michel. Could you maybe tell us what the difference is?

Mi 241Y has a sideways (not upright) watermark.

I've never been able to determine sideways vs. upright for that watermark. Anybody know how to tell the difference?

digeriukas,

It appears to me to be a Y.

With a normal watermark, the open spaces in the waffle watermark are slightly taller than they are wide.

With the sideways watermark, the opposite is true.

Yours appears to be wider than tall, which would make it a Y.

Also, there's a slight "grain" to the paper which is normally vertical. Yours appears to be horizontal, which would be consistent with the paper being sideways.

Michel 2016 CV is €2 for MiNr 241 used, €80 for MiNr 241 Y used.
