Looks like a Cinderella, but from who? There's a name at the bottom but can't fully see the last two letters (Casa Da Moroa). I tried to translate Senta A Pua and can only get "Sits" for Senta. It's a high quality engraved stamp. Anyone know what this is?

Possibly a semi-official airmail? It is listed in Sanabria. Issued June 18, 1949. Honors Brazilian Air Force that ooperated in Italy during World War II; also commemorates II Meeting of Congress of Civil Aeronautics. Designer: Lanceta. Engraver: Fonseca. Just over 1 million printed.

Value in 1966 was 15 cents mint or used and 50 cents on cover.

Brasil Scott Nr. 689. "Senta a pua" is a slang expression used in the interior of Brasil during the 40s (and perhaps a bit earlier.) It's very difficult to explain.

Very difficult to explain in a family-friendly setting?

Or, just plain difficult?

I've found that diplomats (mine in their country, theirs in my country) and appropriate academics can be very helpful with idioms, pop culture references, et al.

Cheers,

Senta a pua - Hit 'em hard.
That is not a literal translation, but it conveys the meaning.

Difficult because it means different things according to context. I'm trying to think of an idiomatic expression in English that is as fleeting.

A poor example might be, "That's bad time." It essentially means time that doesn't count, but it depends on whether you are talking about military service or wrestling to know what is at stake. (Again, a poor example of slippery idioms, but translations are like that.)
