Attendance figures for WSS NY 2016 have not been released.
So let's crowd-source an answer.
My badge number was 28035, issued on 06/June.
Yeah, sure, the numbers could have been random, and not sequential.
And yeah, sure, the numbers did not start at zero.
But a high/low range, from our group here at SCF, will be illuminating, nonetheless.
Cheers,

Edited to add: No, there is no date on the badge, but the PDF file you downloaded has a date assigned by your 'puter.
Obviously, if we report badges/dates that are sequential & chronological, the conclusions will be fairly obvious & reliable.
That, in turn, is why every badge/date matters, even if yours is not especially early or late.
Ancillary data would also be helpful, eg, The Linn's print run, the "Passport" print run, etc, and whether/not supplies were exhausted.

Badge # 24418; not sure when I registered, but it would probably have been around July/Aug of 2015.
The expected attendance figures were advertised as 250,000; although the show was lively and I had a great time, I doubt that figure was reached. It was advertised that over 200 dealers were expected; the program guide lists only around 150 and that includes the booths for the auction firms, the suppliers such as Palo Albums and SAN, and a few other miscellaneous folks such as the National Postal Museum. Maybe the guide missed a few firms. |

Friend just registered for the show (apparently the website is still operating) just to see what badge number it would produce. Got badge number 36850. Maybe that number doesn't mean anything in terms of how many people attended, but if it is any kind of indication, looks like the attendance was way below what was hoped. |

Since 250,000 at a stamp show hasn't been reached in at least 40 years, I doubt very many knowledgeable people took that number seriously. I would guess that 45,000-50,000 total visitors is probably closer to realistic. Of course this includes people who showed up multiple days being counted for each day. And the demographic was different from a regular show, more women, more minorities, more kids. |

My badge doesn't have a number it has a V for volunteer. Also note, there were no numbers on ID's given out to people that walked up and signed in.
Sorry iP your data is bad. |

Well, let's not panic.
The volunteers numbered in the hundreds, not the thousands.
Q/ Did any of us risk the lines, and not register in advance?
As to their not capturing the registration data at the moment of registration ... where's Don, now that I need him?
Cheers,

I'm curious why you want to know badge numbers and what conclusions you want to make.
I think the show was a success according to the dealers who were there. I had two days to attend the show and I wish I had more time to spend there. Not sure what my badge number was and my wife also attended and had a badge number but she is not a collector. Should we count her number also? Vince |

Quote: "When you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meager and unsatisfactory kind." - Lord Kelvin, 1893
Done properly, they would know the attendance in real-time. So either it wasn't done properly or they know and have not released the numbers. Anecdotal observations are good, but quantified data is better. I agree that if there was record attendance we would have already heard about it. I also agree that if is was badly attended the dealers would have made their dissatisfaction known by now. The answer must be somewhere in between. Don |

Sigh...trust me, there were many many people that did not pre register.
That doesn't mean there aren't accurate numbers. Someone would have to count the on site registration slips and add them to the online numbers.
But using pre registered badge numbers, in my less than humble opinion, is futile for accurate attendance.
Mark Butterline might be the one to contact. I'm just not that motivated to do so. |

Two interesting points ----The New York Stamp Show has not put out a press release since May 21 ,which was a week before the show started ,yes a whole month of silence . Second I will put a call into the Javit Center for crowd numbers and people attending ,all these convention business keep their own records . |

I wonder how the Javits center compiles their stats. It would be interesting to hear their numbers but also how they come by them. |

stampcrow ---Their staff and management are in the building for hundreds of shows and their own records are needed by the insurance company . If you ask me and you didn't I would ask the janitors how much toilet paper was used and that would tell them how many people were in the building . |

Quote: Their staff and management are in the building for hundreds of shows and their own records are needed by the insurance company . Makes sense. But they must have a valid (insurance company acceptable) process of obtaining the data. That may be an "experts" estimation based on toilet paper use. I guess I'm hoping that when you contact them, you might also inquire about the how. |

I sent an email to Mark Butterline. He was gracious enough to reply. Here is part of that. Quote: The APS guys are totaling up all that stuff. They are dealing with a lot of paper registration forms, as well as APS StampShow in early August, so I'm not sure when they will come up with their final numbers. That said I think the numbers will be almost as large as Washington 2006. |

My estimate: 38,000. Definitely smaller than Washington 2006, but still a fun week. I believe every attendee had to register, so they should have an accurate count on how many different people were there. |
