If it's 1807, it's the reign if George III. The Order of the Garter is a red herring - the crests and the wording ("Honi soit ...") are commonly used in official documents.
"Honni soit qui mal y pense" is french and means "evil be to him who evil thinks". This thread about English nobility reminds me that there is a good chance or not that my ancestor was the Marquis de Sade. No jokes. Daniel
