Hello fourtywan! Hungarian stamps marked with "Porto" are for postage due. I don't know what catalog you use, so I can't give you a number but if you look in Hungary postage due you should find them.

I had a look in my Stanley Gibbons world catalogue and I couldn't find it either. Can see the underlying stamp no problem, 1916 Express Letter Stamp - but not apparently listed with the overprint.

They're special delivery stamps overprinted with postage due (minimum catalog value).

Locally printed and issued postage due stamps - most catalogs do not list these. Only highly specialized catalogs list these. Please search "Hungarian due stamps" on this forum. By the way, all these were printed between 1916 and 1918.

We drove southeast out of Paris and into the French countryside and one of my parents remarked:

"This is gorgeous. No wonder the Germans kept trying to steal it."

Cheers,

fourtywan, my 2005 Y&T Classiques du Monde has a note for these Hungarian postage dues:

"Les no 195 ŕ 197, 198 ŕ 194 ... on rencontre aussi tous ces tembres avec la lettre P ou le mot PORTO et nouvelle valeur en surcharge; ils ont servi provisiorement comme timbres-taxe."

I check every pages of the Hungarian 2016-17 catalog publish by the Hungarian philatelic of Budapest, so THE reference and they are not a single picture of even something close to this overprint of the 1916 surgos . The have at some place info without Text but it's in Hungarian I check for keyword and 100 filler and those text and nothing. So to say the stamps worth nothing , we'll show me the reference
