Just received this email; they're working on the 2026 show already with website up and running - http://www.boston2026.org"Thanks for Making it a Great Show!
Dear Friend of NY 2016, It's all over and the proverbial fat lady has sung. I hope everybody had a great show (i.e., sold a lot, bought a lot, saw a lot of great material, and most of all, reunited with friends and made some new ones). We don't have the final numbers on the show yet, but it appears that most folks came away pretty happy.
But now that New York is done, work on the next American international show can now begin in earnest. And toward that end the Boston 2026 website is now up and running. There you can learn about the next American international show and sign up for the email list so you can be kept up to date and provide input to the show organizers.
Questions or comments may be directed to the Boston 2026 Executive Directory Mark Butterline at ExecDir@Boston2026.org."*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

They need a communications consultant. The overall tone and presentation of this message is awful, and each individual sentence is variously trite, uncomfortably casual, redundant or otherwise badly written. I hope someone can add a measure of dignity, flair and professionalism in the next ten years.

Agreed! "The proverbial fat lady has sung"? Who puts that in a business communication? |

The fat lady is not proverbial.
She might be allegorical, or metaphorical - I am open to suggestions - but she ain't proverbial.
Sloppy comms.
Cheers,

She is under the secondary meaning of the word: "well known, especially so as to be stereotypical". |

Wow, this is a tough crowd! I hadn't realized that all e-mails should be formal. I have no problem at all with this one which has a 'chatty,' friendly tone appropriate to one's hobby. I've always thought stamp collecting should be a friendly hobby and should try to avoid the haughty arrogance of the 'private stamp club' type. There's enough of that among the wealthy and self-important. That the sender chose to adopt a friendly tone is good to see. In fact, I can't see a single thing wrong with this. |

There is a large difference between a business email and a casual email. Business emails should be professional and formal, think of it as being on a company letterhead. So I guess it comes down to how they wanted to be perceived. If they want to be perceived as being professional then the email misses the target. If they want to be perceived as your friend, then the email is close to acceptable (unless you are an overweight female).
It seems to me that staying professional would have been much more appropriate for a general email blast. Don

I was just thinking about this show... It will probably be my only chance to attend a World show! I live about 8 miles away, as the crow flies. Actually getting to the location would probably take AN HOUR! (local folks understand why I say that...) I can't help but think this caliber of show is amazingly overwhelming to attend. Especially for average collectors, those of us who don't travel to large shows with large wallets. The local aspect of the show may be interesting. While I am not a real Bostonian, I'm close enough to pretend when needed, and am also near so many Revolutionary War areas. Perhaps there will be special cancels, USPS stamps, etc that will be unltra-nifty-cool! And so I have 4 years to decide if I will attend. I hope I can decide by then! https://boston2026.org/ |

Nells250 - well, as the first person to post on this thread, I went to the 2016 show pretty much every day and thought it was a great event. If the 2026 show promises to be anything like it, I will definitely attend even though I now live in Arizona. Plenty of things to see and do, besides spending money at the tables - presentations, exhibits, meetings.
With plenty of time to think about it, I encourage you to give it a shot. I grew up in the Boston area so it'll be good to visit the area again and see folks I haven't seen in a while. |

I will be attending as well if I am still vertical by then. I live in Western MA and worked in Boston for years. An awesome city. Italian food in the North End, the Public Garden, Fenway, the waterfront, Newbury Street for shopping and so much more. If you have not been in Boston since 2016 you will be shocked at how much the skyline has changed. There has been a massive building boom. Where else can you see Old Ironsides and Whitey Bulger's place in the same hour. |

Unbeknownst to me I worked with a few Bulger people on construction projects in Boston during the 90's. I found out well after the fact and it answered some questions for me about decisions that were made regarding funding/spending. Not sure if the Stamp Show will be in a Massachusetts Convention Center Authority facility but if you want a laugh look up the ties back in the day between Bulger and MCCA. Of course, it did not help to have Billy Bulger as the head of the MA Senate and then UMASS.
Wonder if Whitey collected stamps. I know that he robbed the Spellman Museum. |

I do and I use to buy postage dues and Guam Guard Mail stamps from Jack all the time. I met him at the International show in Rosemont, IL in 1986. Nice fellow and always had great stamps!!! |
