Hi all.

Just picked up a couple of pages with German occupation stamps for Jersey and Guernsey, the small coat of arms issue. Each page has several examples of the stamps, and I'm not at all sure why. (My GB and World catalogues are not detailed enough to list varieties.)

Does anyone know, or know where I could find out, what the different types are? For example, there are eight green 1/2d from Guernsey. One is marked "banknote paper", which is simple - the other seven are unmarked. Three seem somewhat darker than the other four.

Of the red 1d stamps, one is marked "cream paper", with three others unmarked.

I know next to nothing about them - I'm guessing there's a good reason for the multiple examples.

I googled the islands with the words 'occupation stamps' after them and there is a wealth of info available. I have no idea if any is specialized enough for you.

I have (not sure why) Gibbons' specialised CI catalogue. These are complex - if you want me to scan the pages for you, send me a PM.

If you don't mind the pricing being out of date (and prices are irrelevant anyway if you are a collector and not an investor) then you can pick up a cheap Specialized catalog for a few pounds. The information is still all there even if the catalog is out of date (by decades in some cases). Try here ...

Geoff - that's very kind of you. I'd appreciate it - I'll PM you.

I did Google it of course, and there are many results. However they all seem to be either a general discussion of the subject, or ads from dealers, ebay etc. Not what I need. I couldn't find the kind of listing I was after.

Ringo,

There are many variations of these. I think SG lists many more then Michel, but if you want to see the Michel varieties with photos, I have them on my website (linked in my signature).

You should try the StampoRama (www.stamporama.com) discussion board for this. There are at least two Channel Islands Occupation specialist collectors there with thorough knowledge of these issues. This is a specialist website that one of them manages.
