This cover looks to be a WWI era soldiers letter, but there's no telling. My question is, what is a receiving ship? Can any member shed some light on this?
GregAlex, a U.S. receiving ship is any vessel that serves as a point of induction into the service for new recruits. If you google "List of U.S. Navy hospital ships" a great explanation comes up! Hope this helps.
